Bug Description

I have HP NC6230 laptop with a internal card reader. The reader was working perfectly under Dapper, whenever I inserted a SD/MMC card, it used to automatically detect it and mount it. It was also possible to read/write files to the card (FAT32).

Since, I have upgraded to Edgy, the functionality is not available. I can see in dmesg that the card insert/eject is detected but I do not have possibility of reading/writing to this card.

Just to confirm, after loading the modules tifm_sd and mmc_core the automount is behaving as expected. This shoud be default....

Still not working in Feisty herd 2. Works normally after loading the modules.

Can you please post a dmesg of card insertion before and after you insert two modules? It shouldn't be too hard to fix once we know where the hotplug events are getting missed.

Kernel appears to provide the necessary hooks for udev to load modules.

This is a current issue with tifm on feisty.

Since bug #82680 was solved, this is the only bug stopping the tifm reader from working.

I've never written a modprobe rule before, but here is one that works for me.

This should (of course), but integrated into 90-modprobe.rules

Didn't intend to alter the Approve/Deny state, I was trying to reject the 2.6.17 request since that doesn't make sense for Feisty.

I also have the HP nc6230 and can confirm the original bug submission still occurs on:

~$: uname -a
Linux xxxx 2.6.17-11-generic #2 SMP Tue Mar 13 23:32:38 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

I have to manually modprobe tifm_sd:

~$: sudo modprobe tifm_sd

...before it will mount the card. I can use Stefano Rivera's modprobe rule and it works for me also.
