IMPORTANT: mod_python26/mod_wsgi-python26 changes

Written for IUS Community Project by BJ Dierkes on 2010-10-09

The following have been pushed to ius-stable for el5:

 python26-mod_wsgi-3.3-2
 python26-mod_python-3.3.1-14
python26-setuptools (EOL'd in favor of python26-distribute in EPEL)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

As many know, EPEL has added python26 support to their EL5 repositories. Therefore we have begun porting all of our python26 packages from IUS to EPEL.

This update is to facilitate the migration of mod_python26 and mod_wsgi-python26 to EPEL. As part of the update, the packages were renamed to align with the EPEL python26 naming conventions as well as a requirement to rename config files. The update in EPEL *would have been* incompatible with the packages in IUS therefore we had to add some upgrade magic to force a rename of the old apache config files and copy existing changes back into place.

It is *very* important that any users of python26-mod_python and python26-mod_wsgi in IUS upgrade to the latest packages and ensure functionality before the packages make their way into EPEL 5 stable. The EPEL packages will *not* have the upgrade 'hacks' to make previous IUS installs function. The packages will most likely be added to EPEL within 2-3 weeks.

If you have any questions please feel free to reply-all on this email so that the discussion can be heard on list.

Package details, and changelog information can be found at the 'repoview' page for the relevant repo. For example:
