How to compile kernel in Karmic

After days of struggle, I am finally able to create new sub flavour for xpsm1330 and compile linux-image-<ver>-xpsm1330 package. There is still a lot of work to be done specific to this project.

Dear XPS users, Please register your blueprints with your hardware details for including device drivers in the kernel.

Outline of Goals

The project has been successfully launched. Here is a list of goals to start with.

- No kernel code modifications are planned in this project, this project will only provide custom compiled kernel
- The kernel will be released in line with latest Ubuntu release of kernel, i.e. if Ubuntu team releases 2.6.XX-X kernel, we will release 2.6.XX-X-xpsm1330vX
- Note that the custom version says xpsm1330vX, the vX is the v1, v2, v3 are the main releases of the custom kernel and v0.1 v1.1 series is the testing releases
- Will not advice to remove the Ubuntu generic kernel packages from the installation
- However, custom kernel will be set as default kernel
-No custom branding(usplash) is planned yet, this can be decided on the outcome of the changes implemented in Karmic Koala

The main goal is to release the first production kernel package on day and date of release of Karmic Koala.

New project for Dell XPS-M1330 users

Welcome to kernel-xps-m1330 project. This project is aimed at providing a kernel configured and compiled for XPS-M1330 laptops. The project will deliver debian packages for kernel based on the sources downloaded from Ubuntu.

Any interested and experienced users are welcome to join the project.

I will be outlining the project goals very soon.
