Announcing the PoProofRead project and release of version 0.1.7

Written for PoProofRead. poproofread has MOVED to github by TLE on 2012-01-16

One of the corner stones of a translation effort aiming at high quality translations is peer review. This is commonly implemented by forming a diff (usually with a dedicated podiff tool lige e.g. that in https://launchpad.net/pyg3t) of the po-file before and after a update. This podiff is then sent to email-lists and proofread, and comments are returned. But where there are several good tools to aid in the translations process that is not the case for the proofreading. This is where PoProofRead comes into play.

PrProofRead is a GTK+ based GUI program for proofreading .po and .podiff files. It features:
 * Easy one-key navigation through the different parts of the proofreading
 * Possibility to immediately start typing comments for the relevant parts
 * Possibility for commenting in-line for large text parts
 * Output generated only contains the parts that you made comments for
 * Resume proofreading at the point where you left it
 * Possibility for adding a bookmark
 * Automatic saving every-time you move away from a new comment

On 2011-12-20 the first official version 0.1.7 was released for testing and there was a lot of good feedback in the form of bug reports and feature requests. Version 0.1.8 to be release soon, will fix the most serious bug and add a few features. If you wish to try it out (and hopefully provide feedback), PoProofRead is release via the PyG3T PPA: https://launchpad.net/~pyg3t-dev-team/+archive/ppa or if you are on other platforms visit the download section.

Please note, that since this is still only the first release, it should still be regarded as alpha-quality, so test it out on smaller pieces of work first.

Documentation for the program can be temporarily found on this webpage: http://dcwww.fysik.dtu.dk/~knielsen/poproofread/index.html
