Old Studio PPA (no longer used, soon to be emptied)

For a while now, I've been having a lot of things taking up my time, things that I've had to prioritize higher than Ubuntu.
I had hoped I could get back to Ubuntu quite fast, but unfortunately it seems I won't be able to do that.

So, please do no use this PPA anymore. Either way, Jaunty should give you a very good experience as things stand now, and this PPA was focused on Hardy anyway.

I will leave the packages here for a while, but in a few days I will remove them.

I'm sorry if I have caused anyone any inconvenience.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
--------------------------------
Please be careful when adding this PPA to your sources.list. It will upgrade certain core packages that have not been tested enough (such as alsa, jack, etc). It might not be an easy task downgrading later, if you find your system broken. You might want to only install selected packages from this PPA, rather than doing a full upgrade, but beware that packages in this repo are compiled against other packages in the very same. This means - to take an example - that audacity for hardy is compiled against alsa-lib 1.0.18. This may or may not cause problems if you choose to install only audacity from this repo, keeping the official hardy alsa packages. Your mileage may vary.

THE BACKPORTS REPO
-----------------------------
The only package that explicitly requires the -backports repo to be enabled is qgtkstyle on hardy. However, if you're crazy enough to use this PPA, you've probably already enabled -backports. Which is just as well.

THE "OFFICIAL" FFADO REPO
-----------------------------------
If you're using the "official" ffado repository (deb http://www.ffado.org/apt gutsy contrib), you should remove it along with the package called jackd-firewire-driver. This package is not needed as jack from this PPA is compiled with ffado support (NB: not removing jackd-firewire-driver will cause a conflict).

PUBLIC KEY

Run the following line in a terminal to import the public key.
wget -q http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/175461/khashayar_ppa.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
or follow the instructions here: https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA#Adding%20the%20keys%20the%20easy%20way

UPDATE ALSA MODULES
--------------------------------
To build updated alsa kernel modules for your running kernel, first make sure you have installed alsa-source and module-assistant. Then, in a terminal, run the following commands:
$ sudo module-assistant prepare
       (--> this prepares the build environment)
$ sudo module-assistant build alsa-source
       (--> this builds the kernel modules, and creates a nice .deb)
$ sudo module-assistant install alsa-source
       (--> this installs the .deb)

Finally, restart your computer to have the new modules loaded.
NB: Modules have to be rebuilt every time the kernel is updated.

PROBLEMS / SUCCESS REPORTS

Please contact me if you have any issues. I'll try to do fix them to the best of my abilities. If things work as expected, let me know as well. So far, a couple of people have reported success with at least jack + ffado. Personally, I'm running all updates from this repo on my hardy box, and so far it's been working fine.
