Trusty/Linux Mint 17 X.org Update to 1.18.3
PPA description
Backport of 1.18.3 to Trusty/Linux Mint. If running Linux Mint 17.3, you must:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get install xorg-update
This is due to Mint 17.3 having -lts-vivid versions of everything which conflict with the standard packages.
The update makes the system aware of the new packages; the upgrade brings in the new -lts-vivid packages from this PPA which don't conflict against the normal packages; and finally installing the xorg-update package, which is a dummy package, conflicts with the old -lts-vivid packages and depends on the newer ones, so that they are also installed cleanly. There's also a dependency on the new virtualbox-guest-* packages, which (as with xserver-xorg-input-* and xserver-xorg-video-*) depend on the new X.org 1.18, which has a different ABI compared to 1.17.1.
After installation, I highly recommend adding ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers for the newest Mesa, LibDRM, LibCLC and LLVM. The only packages that will not (indeed cannot) be updated from his repository will be the xserver-xorg-video-* ones, as his Trusty versions depend on the ABI from X.org 1.15.1. I'll keep mine synced with his as much as possible, but the versions here are slighly different (based more on the Wily branch from Oibaf), as glamoregl is built into X.org now. I also "rescued" intel-gpu-tools (from Vivid, which is now EOL) from his repository and backported it, for use with intel-vaapi-driver and libva, which are kindly borrowed (and backported) from ppa:paulo-miguel-dias/mesa.
The majority of library packages here have been backported mostly for Mir support with Trusty and X.org. This was actually removed from the -lts-vivid branch, but is now re-enabled in this release. I have confirmed them all to install without a hitch on my Linux Mint 17.3, including dpkg, cups and fontconfig.
Finally, thanks also to ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test for the GCC-5.3.0 backport, with which I could build GCC-5.3.1 from Xenial. In fact, rather than waste CPU cycles recompiling, I copied the isl and mpfr4 libraries directly from there.
