Initiate consistent EBS snapshots in Amazon EC2

The "ec2-consistent-snapshot" command can be used to initiate EBS (elastic block volume) snapshots in Amazon EC2. In particular, it can take steps like flushing and locking a MySQL database as well as flushing and freezing an XFS file system during the snapshot.

You can install the latest version of this software on Ubuntu using:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alestic &&
  sudo apt-get update &&
  sudo apt-get install -y ec2-consistent-snapshot
