This project is an effort to track the concerns about Mono, Moonlight and related technologies in a constructive way. We think that the Mono flamewar degenerated in a shameless mess because of both parts. We also think (guess) that further *official* clarification and/or Mono/moonlight relicensing from Novell and Microsoft may clear up pretty much everything quickly.

Since the attitude of both parts troubles us and every useful information gets dispersed in a mess of personal attacks we decided to open this thing on launchpad to create a good quality list of issues that need to be addressed.

We will catalogue every concern by filing a bug.
Every bug represent a concern. Nothing in here is to be considered legal advice, not even user data (eventually) coming from lawyers. The status of the bug, furthermore, does not constitute a real world confirmation of the truthfullness of the claim, just a confirmation that we're concerned.

PARTECIPATION is welcome, feel free to open you own bug, but keep in mind the following points:

  ✓ this project is not meant to do any kind of evangelization or anti-evangelization
  ✓ external references are pretty much required. Unless you're pointing out something that has been not discussed elsewhere.
  ✓ bugs are moderated. what means we will only approve concerns that are meant to be serious.
  ✓ just saying Microsoft is bad, Novell is corrupt or writing M$ and that kind of crap won't make your bug serious.
  ✓ try to avoid duplication of bugs at all cost. This is not a code bugtracker, so we'll try to keep it cleaner.
  ✓ we're not that in the technical merit of mono. In fact, we don't care if it's fast or not, well done or not.

WORKFLOW:

  ✓ bugs will be used as moderated wiki entries. We will edit the bugs description to include useful information coming from the comments
  ✓ no flaming or evangelizing information is likely to be included

FLAMING:

  ✓ this is not really the place to flame about mono
  ✓ if someone flames in the comments... well we don't really care. We welcome discussion, and while we hope it will be always constructive, sometimes that will just not happen on topics like Mono.

  ✓ if you feel that any of the issues can be resolved easily upstream (old documents or whatever) your welcome to liason with the appropriate entities and get back to us once the issue is cleared up.
