The Santals are known as one of the oldest and largest indigenous communities in South Asia. They are distributed politically throughout the states of Bihar, West Bengal, and Orissa, India. Most of the tribes live in the hilly areas of the Chotanagpur Plateau, located in southern Bihar.A large number of santals are living in Bangladesh and India. The total population of santals of all countries is about 8,610,000. Their language is known as Santali.
The Santali project will run the Ubuntu santali language translation. It will enrich the Santali language in IT sector.
