Una (acronym for Ubuntu News Aggregator) will serve as the core for RSS readers with multiple interface styles.
Originally planned as a grid style RSS reader built on HTML5 and Python will now serve multiple purposes.
Una Reader will work as command line RSS reader. Great for those that like to setup cron jobs, prefer the command line as an interface, or want to use it on a headless machine. (Una likes Raspberry Pi)
Una will also be available as a graphical application. The GUI toolkit is still undetermined. It will feature a classical list appearance with feeds, articles, and an article view. There will also be a favorites list for separating stories of interest.
Now that Google Reader is on the chopping block, a sever edition is also planned. Not sure if it will be web based server or simply a tcp extension of the command-line version.
There will be an import feature Google Reader subscription xml files.
Future plans include an Android app.
