Hi! I'm Carlo Capocasa... I'm a technically-minded musician living in St. Gallen, Switzerland. I am a beta-tester and Wiki writer for UbuntuStudio; my goal is to help make it as out-of-the-box as possible. I simply make my own system good and share the knowledge gained with the community.
My main interests in Ubuntu are patchable synthesizers. Currenty I mostly use Pure Data due to its amazing sound quality and versitality; in the past, I have used Om. I am also, as many others, a huge fan of Ardour, the digital audio workstation.
In my music, I do electrified minimalist Funk (Synth drums and synth bass only, with the bass and its sound textures taking many roles traditionally taken by guitars and keyboards) with airy multi-voice vocals.
I am also working on using artificial intelligence to help fewer players play more instruments at one time, while retaining the finesse and intuition of live play. Here, also, Pure Data comes in handy. While currently I am programming the instruments and overdubbing the vocals, there will be a band, playing the electronic instruments, and singing the vocals. I also love the old-school 'Bubblegum Rap' feel (see Sugarhill Gang or Will Smith) and I like to add that driving feel to songs without actually rapping.
I am strong believer that there are any number of beliefs; what matters is what works for the individual, to make experience best for everybody (people who have looked into the meaning of the word 'Ubuntu' might find this idea vaguely familiar). One belief that works very well for me is that there is no such thing as 'external' circumstances, that all external circumstances come to us in alignment with the beliefs we hold in our subsconscious mind. Hence, a lot of my efforts go into reinforcing the beliefs I have that I want, and letting go of those that do not serve me. Here is where the lyrical content of my music comes in: In addition to enjoying it for its entertainment value, you can use it to play over and over again to re-inforce beliefs that you want. You can check the title of the song to see if it represents a belief you would like to have re-inforced.
This goes for all music. I am very selective about what music I listen to, especially for lyrics. It has the potential to change my life, so I want to audit it for content I want to later experience in my life.
Another area I am involved in is on-line music publishing. I am currently creating a special version of the Joomla Content Management System that is designed to help make a living by distributing for free on-line. Needless to say, one belief it is a good idea to constantly re-inforce is that enough people will give money in return when receiving good things for free. (If you want to do this, of course!) I use the OGG formats exclusively and promote Songbird as the prime way to listen to music today.
I make a living from the generosity of others, currently mostly my friends and family, and always extending this wonderful circle of supporters. I am blessed to be able to work on music, technology and practical spirituality full-time. If you would like to help out to I would love to hear from you; you can get in touch right here on Launchpad or on my web site.
Currently, there are some experimental songs and previews on-line. Enjoy!
In my private life, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful girlfriend Beatrice. I love watching movies (that reinforce beliefs I want to have). I don't listen to much music, except the music that comes to me from within so I can produce it. Maybe I can be more innovative this way.
