My name is Eckhard _Frank_ Sandig. I'm born in 1983, married and have two sons. I'm a die maker by trade. After my apprenticeship, I've studied on Materials Science and Engineering (Steel Technology) in Freiberg, Saxony, Germany. At the moment, I'm research assocciate with this University.

On freenode and ubuntuusers.de I'm also known as Ekkehardt.

I use Linux since SuSE 7.3. Before, I've tried Caldera, but that did not work with the hardware I had back then. Over the time, I've had my experience with SuSE/openSUSE, Debian and Kanotix as productive systems. Also, I gave more than 20 other distros a try, mostly in VMs.

I know about Ubuntu since Dapper. Since Feisty, Ubuntu is my main operating system. From time to time I use crunchbang.

Since Hardy I only employed LTS releases, so I first got in touch with unity in Precise. After years with gnome2 an a short period using unity and gnome3, I currently run Lubuntu 14.04.

For I'm not good at programming, I decided to start translating in February 2013 to contribute and to give something back to the Ubuntu project for what I received over the last years.
