I'm Dave Perdue. I live in California right between San Jose and San Francisco. I've been using Linux almost exclusively (work) since late 2005. Before that I'd played with it for about 8 years and finally decided that if I'm actually going to learn about it and enjoy it I have to dive in. So I threw Windows out and installed a few different distributions before finally finding Ubuntu. I used Ubuntu, then switched to Kubuntu for quite a while, but finally switched back to Ubuntu. I really like KDE, but most of the applications I use are GTK...so why not use GNOME?

I use Linux on all my personal computers. I have one server at work that is also running Linux with VMware to virtualize a bunch of Windows systems. I don't really have anything against proprietary software or software I have to pay for, although there are several businesses that have a very poor attitude and bad business practice. I just really like the fact that everything I need and want for my computing needs is available to me with very high quality for free. I wish I could program and contribute back to some of these projects, but I guess donating will have to do.

I've been trying to tell people and show people that Linux and other FLOSS is not out of reach for them. They can get the software, start using it, and make a lasting investment with only their time. I always like to see people's faces when they find out I'm running Linux...and it's free...and I don't have to worry about spyware or viruses (for now)...and it looks good...it's not just a "DOS prompt"...etc. etc.

Anyway, sometimes I blog or post things at http://www.skachex.com.
