I am also a long-time linux user (since 0.99.x kernel times). I was running slackware at the beginning. Then it was debian all the way to ubuntu :). I run debian on some of my server boxes and ubuntu on the rest. Ubuntu server (8.04/10.04) is running on part of my department computing cluster (changed from SuSE SLES). I am also running proxmox-ve with many ubuntu 8.04 virtual machines on the department server. I am also part of the polish wikipedia project and an author/coauthor of some free software (see my home page for details).
